The best time for comet C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy)

During the second and third weeks of January comes the best time for the comet C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) observations. C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) is the fifth comet discovered by Australian comet hunter Terry Lovejoy. Tailed Wanderer will be observed high above the horizon in the dark, moonless sky of northern hemisphere. If you know exactly where to look, you can easily see it with the naked eye as a misty spot of 4th magnitude. When using binoculars or telescope a fairly large and condensed coma and dim ion tail can be revealed. Comet is easy to observe using binoculars or telescope even now in the moonlight, and the period of its moonless visibility starts on January, 7th.

Of course, seeing such a bright comet brings you a great pleasure. But apart from this, it may be useful scientifically. Do your visual photometry together with coma diameter and tail length estimates and make reports to CometBase! Morris's method is best to use for brightness estimates using binoculars.
